A Navy chief petty officer's footage, analysed frame by frame
A Navy warrant officer and professional aerial photographer shot colour film showing a group of bright objects in motion. The material received one of the most detailed analyses in Blue Book history, including densitometric measurement.
Official position
The Battelle / Blue Book analysis concluded: probably birds — gulls — reflecting sunlight.
Alternative hypotheses
- Gulls in a thermal — consistent with the motion, the brightness and the absence of visible structure.
- Genuine objects — the densitometric analysis indicated brightness higher than expected for birds, which remains the point of dispute.
Significance: the first serious technical analysis
Tremonton is the moment the US government first treated UFO material as data rather than anecdote: frame by frame, densitometrically, against reference footage of birds.
