Multiple objects around US Navy warships off California
Over several nights ship crews reported multiple aerial objects operating around the group. Infrared recordings and ship's log entries were produced. The Navy confirmed the material is authentic.

Alternative hypotheses
- Unmanned aerial systems operated from a surface vessel — the hypothesis indicated as most probable, consistent with the number of objects, the duration and the flight pattern.
- Prosaic objects in night conditions at low sensor resolution.
A necessary separation
What is confirmed: multiple objects operated around the ships over several nights, this was captured by sensors and entered in the ships’ logs, and the material is authentic.
What is not confirmed: that the objects entered the water. The popular version of this case contains a “the object vanished beneath the surface” element that the publicly available material does not show conclusively — loss of a sensor track is not evidence of submergence.
The most probable explanation, and why it is not reassuring
Hours-long, multi-night activity by multiple objects in formation around a group of warships fits a drone swarm launched from a surface vessel very well.
That explanation is prosaic and simultaneously more serious than the extraterrestrial hypothesis: it would mean effective, undetected reconnaissance conducted against US Navy warships in their own exercise waters.
